Minami-Boso or Southern Chiba is one of these beautiful places in Japan where you can “Just about to” do a mini day trip from the Capital.
Being sparsely populated, roads are regional at best, as a photographer the least we want is having to see beautiful light passes right through you while you sit on your car doing nothing!
Here’s a work around. For access from West Tokyo, Shinagawa, Yokohama or further west, The Shirahama-Maru from The Tokyo Bay Ferry Company takes you right to the famous Nokogiri-Yama in less than half the normal time! Simply take a train to Kurihama, near the Yokosuka US Base, where the ferry departs 12 times a day, taking roughly 40 mins to get across.
This is how you capture beautiful sea mists on the Pacific without having to stay overnight.
(I do recommend overnight, see my upcoming posts!)
On the way back, in clear skies you may see Mount Fuji’s majestic silhouette rising above the sea, enjoy playing with sea gulls that seem incapable to discriminate between snacks and your finger, it hurts.
